Five Most Serene Waterbodies to Camp in the North East India

 Camping is an exterior activity where people stay overnight away from home in a tent or a recreational vehicle. The founder of modern recreational camping was Thomas Hiram Holding."In 1853 he crossed the prairies of the United States in a wagon train, covering some 1,200 miles (1,900 km) with a company of 300". However, the first possible public camping ground is Cunningham's Camp on the Isle of Man, between England and Ireland which was established in 1894(More info).

Camping outside is a favorite weekend activity nowadays all over the World. There is plenty of health benefit that you can enjoy after each camping session. It will make you feel relaxed, reduced stress, imbibes more physical exercise, improves memory and sleep which eventually better the relationship that you have, and also enhances the level of Vit D.

Northeast India is the easternmost region of India representing eight states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Although North East India is not often visited by people from metro cities it is a place where they can achieve their peace and tranquility which is lacking in most of the families of large cities.

1.Dumbur Lake

Dumboor Lake is a charming water body located in Amarpur Sub Division 120 Km. away from Agartala. The look of the lake is like tabor-shaped small drum, "Dumboor" of Lord Shiva from which the name "Dumboor" originates. A massive and breathtaking water body of 41 sq.km. Govt Guesthouse is available by online booking from the TTDC website but staying in a camp will be an experience to cherish forever.

2. Chabimura Hills on Gumati River

Chabimura or Chobimura also known as Chakwrakma or Chakrakma is famous for its panels of rock carving on steep mountain walls on the bank of the Gomati river in the Indian state Tripura. There are huge carved images of Shiva, Vishnu, Kartika, Mahisasura Mardini Durga, and other Gods and Goddesses.

State: Tripura

3. Lake Umiam

Umiam Lake is a reservoir in the hills 15 km north of Shillong in the state of Meghalaya, India. It was created by damming the Umiam River in the early 1960s. The principal catchment area of the lake and dam is spread over 220 square km

State: Mizoram

4. Loktak Lake

Loktak Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in India. It is a pulsating lake, with a surface area varying from 250 sq km to 500 sq km during the rainy season with a typical area of 287 sq km. The lake is located at Moirang in Manipur state, India.

State: Mizoram
Distance from Capital City: 31.2 km from Imphal
Best time to visit: Any time except Monsoon and Post Monsoon season(July to January)

5. Lake Tawang

The Sangestar Tso, formerly called Shonga-tser Lake and popularly known as the Madhuri Lake, is located on the way from Tawang to Bum La Pass in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh, near the Indo-China border above 15,200 ft above sea level.

State: Arunachal Pradesh
Distance from Capital City: Around 12hr drive from Itanagar
Best time to visit: Any time except Winter (October to January)
